Amines

Amines are organic compound that include a basic nitrogen atom in the functional groups. It is characterized by distinctively horrid smell. These are derivatives of ammonia in which hydrogen atoms are replaced with aryl group. They are structured into four sub-categories as primary, secondary, tertiary or cyclic. This structuring depends on the hydrogen atoms of ammonia that has been replaced by organic groups. Some amines like ethylamine with low molecular weight are toxic. Amines with higher molecular weight are highly active derivatives.

Alkaloids are naturally occurring amines which are present in certain plants, catecholamine neurotransmitters, and histamine (mostly in animal tissues). There are several methods for obtaining this organic compound. They are broadly classified in two groups as chemical reduction and reactions of ammonia/amines. Aniline and ethanolamine are the major merchandise used by the industries. These commodities are used in rubber production, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and synthetic resins and fibres.
