Emulsion Polymers are obtained by emulsifying (polymerizing) specific monomers with the help of a surfactant (or an emulsifier) to obtain their polymers, such as an oil-water emulsion. They find application in industries such as paintings and coatings, adhesives, paper and paperboard coatings and others. Emulsion Polymerizing is a speedy, yet controlled process whose products (emulsion polymers) can usually be used without much of an alteration.

Emulsion Polymers can be broadly classified as synthetic rubber, plastics and dispersions. Within these categories some of the more common ones are as  synthetic rubber - certain grades of styrene-butadiene and polybutadiene; plastics - PVC, polystyrene, PTFE and dispersions - polyvinyl acetate, latex acrylic paint.

Acrylic and paints & coatings are the major components of the the emulsion polymer market. Increased demand of paints and adhesives and the growing global economy are the major forces behind the booming market of emulsion polymers. But still there are some constraints in the growth of this market. One of the major constraints in the growth of emulsion polymers market is the high cost of raw materials, but intensive research in this areas and increased availability of raw material is now also helping in reducing the cost of raw materials, thus promoting further growth and expansion of this market.

China & India lead the emulsion polymers market followed by North-America and Western Europe. The key players in this market include Akzo Nobel N.V, Arkema S.A, DIC Corporation, The Dow Chemical Company, Wacker Chemie A.G.

Apcotex Buys Emulsion Polymers Maker Omnova Solutions
Apcotex Industries, one of the leading producers of performance emulsion polymers in India, has acquired 100-percent stake of Omnova Solutions India Pvt. Ltd (OSIPL), the Indian arm of US-based specialty company Omnova Solutions Inc, for Rs. 36 crore. This is aligned to Apcotex’s long term strategy to tap the full potential of the emulsion polymers industry, through organic and inorganic growth. Omnova Solutions is the only producer of nitrile rubber in India and only the second producer of high styrene rubber after Apcotex. Omnova Solutions has a factory in Valia (Gujarat), which it acquired in 2010 from France's Eliokem International. The French firm had bought the plant from Apar Industries in 2008.
Mallard Creek Polymers Announces New All Acrylic Polymer Emulsions And Styrene-Butadiene Latex For Coatings
Mallard Creek Polymers, Inc. (MCP) continues to develop all acrylic polymer emulsions to meet customer demands for many novel and conventional application fields. Specifically, Paint and Coatings companies continue to seek a different approach to product development that is more customized to their unique requirements. MCP manages directed customer research while growing its product offering and segment participation. This approach helps the company to deliver customized products at market competitive prices, thereby helping coatings customers to reduce total overall cost. Rovene 6027 is the latest all acrylic emulsion polymers developed as a low VOC workhorse product for multiple paint and coating applications requiring all acrylics. The product exhibits good filler capacity with excellent elongation.
Celanese To Construct VAE Emulsions Unit In Singapore
Celanese Corporation, a global technology and specialty materials company and a global leader in vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE) emulsions, announced it has begun construction of a VAE emulsions production unit at the company’s acetyls facility on Jurong Island, Singapore. The unit is expected to begin production by mid-2016. This Singapore unit will be the third VAE investment by Celanese in Asia, demonstrating the company’s commitment to growth and development of its emulsions business in the region. The Singapore plant will support the Southeast Asia region including India, Australia and New Zealand.
India's Polymer Emulsions Firm Opens Unit In UAE
A leading Indian polymer emulsions manufacturing company has opened a new plant in the UAE, the region's largest such unit, and is set to begin commercial production. The USD 51 million plant has a total land area of about 78,000 square meters with a capacity of 120,000 metric tons per annum, region's largest polymer emulsion plant.
