Johnson Controls Expands Magnetic-Bearing Chiller Offering
Johnson Controls has expanded its magnetic-bearing centrifugal chiller line, the York YMC2, to 1,000 tons of cooling (3,500 kW). The chiller works on magnetic levitation technology in its driveline to spin without friction, offering noise free, efficient operation. The chiller is capable of achieving values below 0.1 kW/ton at part load, resulting in a significantly lower utility bill. The oil-free design delivers reliable operation and low maintenance, providing a lower total cost of ownership over the life of the chiller. The larger cooling capacity units address the need for reduced sound, high efficiency, and low maintenance as well as featuring magnetic bearing and oil free technology. Such technology would provide effective service for a longer span which is cost effective also.

SKF S2M Magnetic Bearings to be used in offshore gas project
SKF, a global supplier of bearings, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems, has announced that SKF which is a supplier of bearings, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems, its S2M Magnetic Bearing have been selected to assemble the offshore upstream centrifugal compressors for the Total Martin Linge development in the North Sea gas field. The Total’s project is the development of the former Hild field, and comprises a fixed production platform with an associated floating storage and offloading unit (FSO), a 24 in. gas export pipe and an offshore control centre in Stavanger. SKF S2M magnetic bearings will assemble five stand-alone compressors and four high speed motors. The reason that made these bearings for the various projects are SKF’s S2M non-contact bearing technology that provides reliable, trouble-free running in demanding environments with long periods between maintenance.

Beijing automotive R&D firm TechRules, has innovated a new vehicle concept called Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) system which is 50 per cent more efficient than existing range extenders. The major being that in case turbines are used for the conversion of the chemical energy into useful mechanical energy which becomes inefficient instead here the electric system is used for the conversion. SKF magnetic bearings installed in world’s first subsea gas compression system operated by Statoil
SKF has supplied magnetic bearings for use in the world’s first subsea gas compression system at the Asgard gas field off the Norwegian coast. As part of the subsea gas compression system, the bearings will contribute to recovering additional gas volumes from depleting gas fields as well as extending the lifetime of those gas fields which would otherwise be prematurely closed. SKF’s magnetic bearing technology was a key enabler to achieve this autonomous deep water subsea gas compression system.
