Over the last decades, roboticists have made significant advancements and developed systems applicable for real-world settings, including healthcare facilities. Amongst the wide range of uses of robotics in healthcare, the technology helps assist patients in hospitals and nursing homes for tasks like eating, assisting individuals to walk, and administering medication.

Researchers have now further advanced by creating an innovative autonomous system to serve as a walking aid for patients admitted to nursing facilities and hospitals. The robot may bring immense progress for Robotic Nurse Assistant Market as medical personnel no longer need to intervene in patients' care. The robot can locate the patients in need. The technology approaches the patients who wish to walk or move to another location within the healthcare facility.

In cases where patients can walk with a walker, doctors usually suggest their use instead of wheelchairs to undertake moderate exercises. However, if a walker is to be used, it must first be carried to the patient, adding to the caregiver's workload and reducing the patient's liberty. Thus, the study aimed at addressing this issue by inventing a walking system that patients can use in various healthcare settings without requiring assistance from others.

The novel system comprises two primary functions. Firstly, it acts as walking support for walker users. Second, it comes with an autonomous driving function for the benefit of caregivers. The walking aid includes a DC (BLDC) motor, which ensures that the walker's wheels rotate towards the travel direction reducing the user's load. On the other hand, the autonomous driving function consists of a ROS navigation stack to self-drive to a location.

The researcher evaluated their development through numerous experiments examining the robot's ability to support people and autonomously walk. The findings came out to be highly promising as both the functionalities were highly efficient even in instances where it was fabricated through low consumption.

The team believes that the system would have immense applicability in nursing facilities. Thus simplifying work for nurses and caregivers. Moreover, the robot is cost-effective and easy to implement, making it an even more attractive option.
