Road accidents frequently occur in adverse weather or due to a sudden collision. Such situations often lead to a pile-up or drivers barely missing each other. Thus there is a dire need for such traffic signal systems to monitor road situations in real-time and warn drivers of any such happenings ahead of their route.
Polish researchers have developed Smart road signs with built-in Doppler radar, video, acoustic radar, and weather stations while walking on a similar route. The technology can significantly advance the Traffic Signal Controller Market, which monitors road traffic and conditions to notify drivers of hazards and prevent collisions on highways in real-time.
According to the researchers, their gadget can also calibrate an acoustic vector sensor, allowing it to estimate highway traffic volume and count automobiles by studying the noise they generate as they pass by. Furthermore, their research provides for a comparison of microwave versus acoustic radar efficiency.
The acoustical vector sensor, which is the embodiment of acoustic radar, has lower vehicle counting accuracy and can't measure the vehicle speed with the same precision. This is compared to Doppler radar; however, it still has several advantages.
The key advantages are that it does not emit any signals and, unlike Doppler sensors, is not vulnerable to electromagnetic interference. Moreover, using an acoustic vector sensor allows for the analysis of audio data to determine whether the road is wet or dry.
The current project also includes the creation of unique signs. These involve ones that can be easily placed on a mobile stand or suspended high on the road, easily visible to people driving by. The signs show constantly updated recommended speeds, determined by an electronic module integrated into the traffic sign.
Furthermore, it uses V2X technology. The system is also known as vehicle-to-everything technology. It refers to a Wi-Fi derivative developed for fast-moving objects that allows Bluetooth-enabled smartphones and cars to communicate with one another.
The technology introduced in the study has all the advantages needed for broad adoption. It can be easily incorporated into cars, is user-friendly and valuable. Importantly, it will solve enormous problems for governments who have to deal with many accidents that result from smog, fog, smoke, etc. The system would help make roads safer and better for the drivers.
